The
elder statesman of the truck float krewes, they are sponsored by the
Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks, a worldwide fraternal society
dedicated to charitable deeds. Following directly on the heels of
Rex, the arrival of the Elks-Orleanians provides a near-constant stream
of music and throws, all being tossed by thousands of riders on
hundreds of trucks. While the truck parades are not as ornate as
the traditional floats, they are quite inventive and represent the "us,
too!" spirit of Mardi Gras.
The krewe's mascot Elroy the Elk, also serves as mascot for their sister krewe, the Elks-Jeffersonians.
